Everyone Can Be More Fit

You might be wondering how that statement could be true for a professional athlete who is at the top of their game. But more and more athletes are learning that by doing exercises that develop their mobility, stability, and strength – without lifting hundreds of pounds of weights – that they are improving their overall performance.

And for those of us who don’t have to rely on our athletic ability for our livelihood, being a more fit version of ourselves brings big rewards – maybe not in the form of multi-million dollar contract – but in something that’s even more valuable. It reduces our risk of injury – think of all the people who say they have “tweaked something in their lower back” – and it improves our overall health and quality of life.

The Components

My training program integrates conditioning, strength, core, balance, mobility, and posture enhancement. I strongly believe that performing each exercise with proper form is essential. There are many well-intentioned people working out lifting weights, pulling cables, and peddling machines but if correct form isn’t maintained, they may actually be damaging their bodies and increasing their risk of injury. At the very least, they are not getting as much benefit as they could from the exercise. My training and experience will guide you through every movement.

My Approach

By using a functional training method that incorporates the types of movements that we perform every day, your body will be stronger, more stable, have greater mobility, and more endurance. And all of the foundational movement exercises such as pushing, pulling, rotation, and locomotion, can be done anywhere and without any special equipment.

If you are able to work with me in my Petaluma studio, we can also incorporate weights, stability ball, BOSU, resistance bands, and other modalities to add variety and new challenges.

Training customized for every fitness level

Regardless of where you’re starting from, an individualized program will meet you where you are. Perhaps one of the following scenarios sounds like you:

  • You believe in the health benefits of exercise and want to incorporate a fitness routine into your life but don’t know how to get started.

I am passionate about helping people feel better and live healthier lives. Getting your body moving will do just that. We’ll work together to set goals that are attainable and realistic so that you are set-up for success. And to borrow a phrase from a national brand, we’ll do it in a “judgement-free zone.”

  • You have a gym membership and exercise occasionally but would like to make working out a regular part of your life.

When you go to the gym, after doing 20 minutes on the treadmill and a few bicep curls, then what? The machines look complicated and group fitness classes seem intimidating. I will design a program that can be done at home or at the gym, covers both strength and conditioning, and with your input, set a schedule that works for you so you can stick with it and achieve long-term success.

  • You exercise regularly but your routine has gotten stale.

Chances are that if you’re always doing the same routine, entire muscle groups are being ignored, or over time, less attention is paid to doing the exercises with proper form which increases the risk of injury. I can design an individualized program that integrates all forms of training (flexibility, cardio, core, balance, reactive and resistance) into a progressive system and provide the expertise to help you work out safely and with good form.

  • You work hard at staying fit but would like to add additional challenge to your workout.

We all need variety and adding progressions to exercises you are currently doing or incorporating new exercises and/or equipment – while making sure that perfect form is being maintained – will bring additional benefits in strength and performance. I will design a program to help you achieve those goals.

  • You’re finding that your body doesn’t respond in the same way that it used to. While you want to continue exercising, you don’t want to risk getting injured.

Even though we may not feel any older, there are physiological changes that happen as we age and we need to respect those. We’ll work together on a training program that addresses changes in flexibility, recovery time, intensity, and balance.
